Scott Arfield frustrated as Livingston held to draw

Scott Arfield admitted Livingston felt hard done by after only drawing 0-0 against Dundee United at Tannadice.
The relegated Lions hit the post, had a Cristian Montano goal ruled out for a marginal offside decision and then had a penalty overturned following a VAR intervention with Joshua Zimmerman, who had tumbled in the box, being booked for simulation.
However, interim Lions boss Arfield admitted that hard luck story summed up his side’s season.
The former Rangers hero said: “I felt we were a bit hard done by in terms of not winning the game.
“I felt we were good for at least a goal, never mind two or three.
“At the offside goal, we’ve only seen it from an angle where it probably favours Cristian Montano.
“Joshua Zimmerman is absolutely adamant that it’s a penalty. What I will say is I’ve seen it in real time and if it’s in the middle of the pitch, I think it’s given as a free-kick. So therefore it has to be given us a penalty.
“I felt we were a bit hard done by in terms of not winning the game. I said that to the boys after the game there.
“I feel as if sometimes when you’re in a situation where we’ve found ourselves in for many weeks and months, these decisions just seem to go against you, they really do.”
United boss Jim Goodwin admitted he was disappointed his side could not finish with a flourish in the final home game of the season.
Goodwin said: “It was a disappointing game to finish in front of the home fans.
“Obviously, we would have liked to be a bit more creative and would have liked to have had more goalscoring opportunities.
“We had a couple of other half-chances but we found ourselves lucky with Livingston hitting the inside of the post as well.
“But look, all in all, it’s difficult for the players in these types of games where there’s not a great deal on the line in terms of what we’ve got to play for.
“Tonight, I suppose the positive is that we’ve secured seventh place with the results elsewhere. We can be quite relaxed now going into the game on Sunday against St Mirren.
“I’ve been making changes over the last few games to the starting XI, trying to be fair to the group, trying to give minutes to people. The performances haven’t been brilliant, there’s no getting away from that.
“We had a fantastic performance post-split against Dundee. We haven’t quite been able to follow that up with any other good performances, but I suppose the positive for tonight is the clean sheet.”
