Teen who would avoid social situations due to severe and painful acne says bio microneedling rebuilt his confidence

A teen who suffered severe and painful acne that led to teasing from friends says bio microneedling – which involves applying needles extracted from freshwater sponge to his face – has given him back his confidence.
Jack Hannay, 18, a bartender from Worcester, Worcestershire, said that banter from friends over his skin problems knocked his confidence and left him “avoiding social situations”.
Searching for alternative treatments when prescribed medication did not work, Jack found bio microneedling, which his dad’s fiance – who works as a beauty salon owner – agreed to help him with.

It can be seen as powder to the naked eye and as a sharp rod crystal under the microscope, but when massaged into the skin, three million natural siliceous microneedles are directly introduced into the dermis layer to promote skin metabolism and stimulate collagen regeneration.
Since having four sessions of the treatment, Jack’s skin is no longer red and, while he still suffers the occasional flare up, he says his skin has drastically improved since starting the treatment.
Jack told PA Real Life: “I’ve suffered with my skin now for a few years and it’s really had a negative impact on my confidence and self-esteem. Some of the breakouts I get are so painful and bleed and leave me with lots of scarring.

“I took lots of banter from friends and tried to shake it off, but deep down it did make me feel rubbish inside.
“The difference in my skin since having the microneedling is like day and night. My skin appears so much clearer and now isn’t painful at all like it was before.”
Jack first started experiencing acne when he was 14 years old.

He added: “The tablets just weren’t working, nothing worked.
“I was trying different soaps and other solutions too, but nothing was working.”
As Jack struggled to find the answer to his skin problems, he admitted that “harmless” jabs from friends started to knock his confidence.

“I got called things like a human dot-to-dot and stuff like that. It did knock my confidence and really made me want to find a solution.”
The answer came unexpectedly when Jack discovered microneedling and his dad’s fiancee agreed to help him try it.
Earlier this year Jack underwent four sessions of the SQT bio microneedling at The Face in Worcester, which involved having the millions of tiny microneedles found in freshwater sponge massaged into his face.

“The treatment was slightly uncomfortable but not painful. Sort of like how you’d imagine a pumice stone gently rubbed against the skin.”
Noticing an immediate improvement in his skin after one session, when the course of four sessions over four weeks was finished, Jack said the change in his skin was “like day and night”.
He added: “I was really surprised. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting it to work that quickly. Even after the first week, I went to see my nan and she even said my skin looked a lot better already.

“It’s been an absolute game changer for me. I’d 100 per cent recommend this treatment to anyone struggling with their skin.”
While Jack still does get the odd flare up of spots, he has said his acne is “nowhere near” as bad as it once was, but added that with more sessions in the future, he hopes his skin will “clear up completely”.
With each session costing £160-£250, Jack said he is saving up to afford more.

Since having the microneedling treatment, Jack said his friends have also noticed a difference in his skin.
“All of them have noticed and commented, every single one,” he said.
“I don’t get banter for my skin anymore and I feel so much more confident.
“I don’t get any pain anymore and I’m still completely shocked by how transformative the treatment has been – not just for my skin’s appearance but also for how much more confident I am again now.”
