Irish rugby player Conor Phillips has confirmed he and fellow Irish Love Island contestant Megan Forte Clarke are officially boyfriend and girlfriend, as the couple continue to go from strength to strength outside the villa.

The pair, who struck up a connection during this summer’s series, confirmed that things are 'official' in an interview. “There has been an update,” Conor revealed. “We are boyfriend and girlfriend now, that’s how well we’ve been doing.”

Speaking recently about how he asked Megan to be his girlfriend, the Limerick man admitted he preferred a more low key moment. “It was nice, just the two of us. It was low key. I didn’t like doing a big extravagant gesture and stuff like that. That’s not really me. So I didn’t want to just do it just because I know people would have ate it up.”

Conor confessed he didn’t even tell his friends or family straight away, joking: “Probably like a typical boy, I didn’t say it to any of my friends or family, whereas she did. We’d done an interview earlier and I’d said it, so next thing I get bombarded with messages from the boys being like, ‘is this true, is this true?’ I was like, yes, I have a girlfriend.”

The couple have already spent plenty of time together away from the cameras, with Megan introducing Conor to her friends on a recent night out in Dublin.

When asked about the future, Conor revealed they’ve been living together for the past three months, though plans to officially move in together are still under discussion. “It feels maybe a bit premature for that, but practicality wise, it’d probably be me that goes to London,” he explained. “But that wouldn’t mean I can’t hop on a flight and come back, it’s so close.”

The relationship has marked a turning point for Conor, who previously admitted Megan was “the only person in the UK” who could have convinced him to stay on the show after he was dumped alongside her. “On the outside, I’ve found something really good. You come in looking to find someone and I have, so I’ve no complaints,” he said.

He added: “Looks wise and personality wise, she was my type to a T. From day one, Megan asked me what my type was and I said it was her. It was a big risk for both of us but it was what we wanted to do. It ended up working.”

For now, the couple are focusing on settling into life beyond Love Island, but with Conor already meeting Megan’s circle and talks of moving to London on the horizon, it seems the Irish duo’s romance is only getting stronger.
