Former Carlow convent to be developed into community and enterprise centre

Former Carlow convent to be developed into community and enterprise centre

Carlow County Council is issuing notice of their intention to develop a former convent into a community and enterprise centre.

That's according to details of a Part 8 application submitted by the council in partnership with Carlow Community Enterprise Centres for the former Presentation Convent in Bagenalstown.

Changes to the building - which will be known as Presentation House post-development - will reportedly be minimal, with the retention of as much of the existing building fabric, interior layout and exterior finishes as possible.

The interior spaces will be maintained with minimal intervention except where the new functions require alterations, however the proposal calls for the demolition of a 30 sq. metre section at the South-East corner to facilitate traffic movement to the rear parking area.

Windows and doors (in line with the existing design) will also be replaced for improved energy performance.

New raised letter signage to identify the main entrance and the secondary entrance to Tyndall Hall is proposed, as well as associated services including landscaping and boundary treatment.

Plans and particulars for the proposed development (including all reports) are available for inspection online at www.consult.carlow.ie or during office hours by appointment only at the Planning Department, Carlow County Council, County Buildings, Athy Road, Carlow by contacting (059) 9170 346 or emailing: part8@carlowcoco.ie

This can be done for a period of 4 weeks beginning on May 23, 2023.

A copy of same at a fee (not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy) can also be purchased.

A submission or observation in relation to the proposed development may be made in writing to the Planning Department.

This can also be done online at Carlow County Council’s public consultation portal, CiviQ, at https://consult.carlow.ie/
or by email to part8@carlowcoco.ie before 5.00pm on July 10, 2023.

Any submissions should be made by one medium only.
