SETU is collaborating with Wolaita Sodo University (WSU) in Ethiopia, the UCD Centre for Humanitarian Action and Concern Worldwide as part of a European-funded project, Building Resistance Through Education (BRTE).
The partnership aims to meet the commitments of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals to transform the livelihoods of communities around the world.
BRTE focuses on the power of education, innovation, societal and economic engagement to transform the livelihoods of the regional population in the Wolaita Zone. This region includes Damot Woyde, the area where concern first began to assist in the 1984 famine.
Speaking to Carlow Live, SETU's David Ryan has said "Staff are working closely with partners to share knowledge and expertise in areas such as ICT, innovation, entrepreneurship and in supporting regional socio-economic development."
Through a series of reciprocal site visits, engagement with a range of SETU staff, workshops, information sharing, shadowing roles, and PhD supervision, academic and technical personnel from WSU have experienced both the systems, processes and organisational structures that facilitate the contribution that SETU is making to promote enterprise and innovation in the South East and beyond and adapted these to the Ethiopian context.
