Planning permission has been granted for a timber cabin to be used as a holiday home letting in Carlow, with a possibility of more holiday homes in the future.
The planned holiday home is at Russellstown Woods, Russellstown, Palatine. The application was submitted on behalf of Richard Seery by SM Architects Limited, for the single-storey wood cabin dwelling.
It was granted planning permission, subject to 12 conditions.
In addition, one or two more pods may be added, which would be subject to a separate planning application.
As part of the application, an architectural impact assessment of proposed works was carried out on the character and setting of piers gates and railings at Russelstowns Park.
This assessment noted that the proposed works would not impact the entrance as the proposed works are beside the existing house, which itself is set back from the entrance. The assessment notes that the entrance gate, piers and railings are protected structures, but the house is not.
A letter from Carlow Tourism supported the development. CEO of Carlow Tourism, Eileen O'Rourke wrote: "Any increase in the accommodation stock, which meets Fáilte Ireland approval criteria is to be welcomed, including accommodation in immediate proximity to Carlow town, where currently no glamping or self-catering facilities are available".
