Huge art installation is set up in Carlow Town to symbolise solidarity against violence
Amber Womens Refuge 'One Million Stars' project brings a new installation to Carlow.
Amber Womens Refuge is a domestic abuse service for women and children in Kilkenny and Carlow.
Their 'One Million Stars' projected is aimed at spreading love. The project began in 2020 in Kilkenny where they installed four large letters spelling out L-O-V-E.
Since then, Kilkenny star weavers have filled the letters with over 30,000 eight pointed stars, each symbolising love, hope and solidarity against violence.
On Thursday 14th September, this installation was brought to a new temporary home at Carlow College St Patrick’s located in the heart of Carlow Town.
It is estimated the stars have been seen by over 100,000 locals and visitors to Kilkenny across its many locations including MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre, the Medieval Mile Museum, St Lukes Hospital, The Tholsel, Market Cross Shopping Centre, National Crafts Council Design Yard, the Yulefest Kilkenny Festival and St. Canice's Hospital HSE Lacken.
The big star, gifted to Amber Women’s Refuge’s project by local firm CDS Architectural Metalwork, will stay at its current home at MacDonagh Junction so local star weavers can continue to tie their stars to it while LOVE is off on its travels.
