The people of Clonmore, Hacketstown and surrounding areas will be in a celebratory mood for the next few days following their success on the GAA pitch this weekend.

It was a historic occasion for St Brigid's and Clonmore as they contested the women's and men's Intermediate Football Championship Finals in Netwatch Cullen Park on the same day.

It was to be a dream Saturday for the two outfits as they both triumphed in their ties. First up on a rainy afternoon, the women had a convincing victory over Kildavin Clonegal on a scoreline of 4-14 to 0-06 before the men's side swept aside St Patrick's by six points (2-12 to 1-09) in the evening.

1994 was the last time Clonmore claimed the Carlow Intermediate title with many of the current team's close relations being part of that men's squad. Families will be rejoicing as the cup has returned to the parish after nearly 30 years.
