South East Technological University (SETU) has hosted lecturer training for academic staff from its Chinese partner universities, Henan University of Animal Husbandry and Economy (HUAHE) and Jilin Normal University (JLNU).

The university hosted twenty-two lecturers this semester from HUAHE and JLNU as part of its commitment to engage its partners in academic teacher training. These lecturers are undertaking English language study and lecturer training via SETU’s Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) at its Carlow campus.

Donal McAllister, International Affairs Manager at SETU in Carlow, commented, “This training programme is a vital component in enabling the successful delivery of SETU programmes at our partner universities in China. We welcome any opportunity to deepen the engagement of faculty members on both sides".

Dr Gina Noonan, Teaching and Learning Integration Lead, said, “The programme has provided an invaluable opportunity for educators to come together and develop a shared understanding of pedagogical practices that support all our learners. We have been able to share our collective expertise, learn with each other and imagine innovative ways to enhance the learner experience within SETU and within our partner universities in China. It has been an extremely rewarding experience for us all in terms of our continuous professional development.”

SETU are set to welcome a new cohort of trainee lecturers in January 2024.
