Carlow County Council issues advise to the local public to help them stay safe during Storm Jocelyn

Storm Jocelyn

Met Eireann has issued a status Yellow Wind Warning for Co. Carlow, in place from 2pm on Tuesday 23rd January 23rd until 2am on Wednesday 24th January.

As a precautionary measure due to Met Éireann's Yellow Wind Warning, Oak Park Forest Park, will be closed to members of the public from 1.30pm Tuesday and will reopen as normal on Wednesday 24th January.

Carlow County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team said 'People should be mindful that Storm Jocelyn may exasperate damage to trees and structures that have already been damaged by Storm Isha.'

'Members of the public should not attempt to clear fallen trees or carry out storm damage repairs until such time as the storm has passed. Issues such as fallen trees, flooding and road damage should be reported to Carlow Council’s Emergency Out of Hours number (059) 9170300.'

'All road users should be aware of the potential for hazardous travelling conditions. Motorists should slow down and be aware of the dangers of fallen trees and debris. High sided vehicles, cyclists and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable during this time,' they continued.

'The high winds may give rise to localised power outages. In the event of a disruption to power supply, please contact ESB Networks at 1800 372 999. Fallen or grounded wires should be avoided, and the public are advised to call ESB in assisting with the identification of fallen wires.'

'In the event of a disruption to water supply, please contact Uisce Éireann at 1800 278 278.'

Finally, 'In the event of an emergency call 999 or 112 and request the Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Gardaí or Irish Coastguard as appropriate. DO NOT assume others will do this.'
