Cllr. Fintan Phelan to host public meeting on Apprenticeships, CAO, Back to Education and Beyond

On Tuesday 23rd April at 7pm in the Seven Oaks Hotel Cllr. Fintan Phelan will host a public meeting focused on Apprenticeships, CAO, Back to Education and Beyond. There are three prominent guest speakers lined up for the event, Niall Collins TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Skills and Further Education, Mary Hanafin, a former Minister for Education, and Brian Mooney, Ireland's leading Career Guidance Counsellor and Irish Times Education Analyst.

Speaking about the meeting Cllr. Phelan said “Following on from my successful consultation with young people across our county I found that there is a need for information events on career options. This one stop shop is a unique opportunity to hear from key people and experts on apprenticeships, CAO options and back to education advice. I am delighted that we will be joined by Minster Niall Collins who has responsibility for apprenticeships in government along with Mary Hanafin who brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and former Minister for Education and Brian Mooney whose career guidance advice is highly sought after.”

This meeting is open to all and it would be of particular interest to students in 4th, 5th and 6th year, their teachers and parents.

“I am also delighted to announce that we will have our new University SETU and Carlow College there on the evening with information stands where you can find out more about various course options that they offer” said Cllr. Phelan.

Recently Brian Mooney has been asked to do a piece of work on retirement planning for older people and commenting on this Cllr. Phelan said “There is something for everyone at this meeting not only will it look at apprenticeships and CAO options but Brian’s work around retirement planning will be very interesting.”

In conclusion Cllr. Phelan said “I would like to encourage everyone to attend this informative event in particular students, parents and teachers.”
