The new FAI calendar proposal voted against by Carlow League

Carlow & District football league unanimously voted against the new FAI calendar proposal.

The new proposal from the FAI was to see teams play their league matches in a single calendar year as oppose to the current format of having the Carlow & District Football League played across a season starting in September and running through to May of the next year.

The Carlow soccer teams voted 16 to 0 to reject the new proposal.

The full letter sent to the FAI by the Carlow & District Football League reads as follows:

"At last night's AGM of the Carlow & District Football League a vote took place with our affiliate clubs on the new FAI football pathway plan and moving to calendar season football.

The clubs voted 16 to 0 to reject calendar football and we can confirm that the CDFL will not now or ever play our season in one calendar year. We will continue to respect the wishes of our clubs who we work so hard for and run our seasons September to May as we have done so for over three decades with huge success.

This is a decision that has been made not by some executive members but the whole league with not one club voting for it. We ask that the FAI board respect each leagues right to choose either winter football and calendar football as currently the case."
