"On Wednesday last, Carlow Gardaí, along with our colleagues from across the Eastern Region, including Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford, attended a major emergency exercise involving a simulated plane crash on Mount Leinster near the Carlow - Wexford border.
This exercise, one of the biggest undertaken in Ireland in the last ten years, saw a 60-foot aircraft fuselage placed in a simulated crash scenario at the Nine- Stones, designed the test the skills of the various emergency service personnel in attendance.
The Primary Response Agencies involved in this exercise were the Local Authority, HSE and An Garda Siochana. Emergency personnel from the Fire & Rescue Service, National Ambulance Service, Civil Defence, Air Accident Investigation Unit, Mountain Rescue and An Garda Siochana all tested their response capabilities should such an emergency ever arise.
Interagency cooperation and preparedness is vitally important for the “what if’s” that may arise beyond prediction.
Finally, a sincere thanks to the residents of Mount Leinster who may have been temporarily inconvenienced for the duration of the exercise."
