New route proposal
The NTA and TFI are seeking the public's opinion for a number of proposed improvements to various routes across Ireland and that includes a route in County Carlow.
The public consultation portal is open now and you can have your input on the proposed changes. The one in question for County Carlow residents is the Carlow - Knockananna bus route.
From the NTA on the proposal of the aforementioned bus route:
Our objective is to provide more frequent services on the Carlow – Knockananna Corridor which will improve integration with other bus routes and rail services. The purpose is to provide the following:
A 7-day week service between Carlow and Knockananna, serving Kernanstown, Tullow, Rathvilly, Baltinglass, Kiltegan and Hacketstown.
The proposed service will offer significantly enhanced service levels, providing 4 buses per day between Carlow and Knockananna.
Improved connectivity with regional and local services at Carlow Train Station.

The purpose of the changes and timeline for the changes by the NTA are as follows:
"We plan to implement our proposals from the end of 2025 onwards but achieving this will be subject to the availability of the necessary additional funding and resources.
These enhancements are part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a major national public transport initiative developed and funded by the NTA as part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network.
The purpose of the consultation is to collect feedback from the public which will then be used to improve the service levels along this corridor.
We encourage you to share your views on how these proposed changes could impact your journey experience."
