In the press release Superintendent Anthony Farrell said this:
"An Garda Síochána Carlow have launched Operation Hurricane, which culminated yesterday in a two day policing intensive operation. The aim of the operation was to arrest and charge persons for outstanding crimes committed in Carlow, especially targeting repeat offenders. While crime, by nature fluctuates, this particular operation was part of the Garda response to an increase in the incidents of in particular property crime.
Some operation highlights include 48 charges preferred against suspects and eight warrants executed. As a result of these operations, persons will appear before Carlow District Court through formal charging of defendants, not including offenders formally cautioned for their behavior and file sent to Director of Public Prosecutions for formal direction how to proceed.
I wish to compliment victims and witnesses who came forward to support the Garda investigation. This partnership with Investigating Gardaí was key to the successful outcomes of the operation. I also wish to acknowledge the long hours both detective and uniformed teams in Carlow preparing for and implementing this operation.
Trying to solve outstanding crime takes time, focus and commitment. Canvassing areas for a cease to be. Conducting door to door inquiries. identifying and encouraging witnesses to come forward and liaising with the forensic science laboratory was only part of the effort to identify suspects for crimes.
Some of these investigations were time consuming and complex, but personnel stayed task focused to ensure the operation successful outcome. An Garda Síochána in Carlow will continue to support victims of crime and do everything as an organization we can locally to continue to prevent and detect crime from happening.
Both uniform and plainclothes teams will remain focused on our commitments to the people of Carlow to ensure all people are assured not only of being safe but also feeling safe in the community."
