Warnings across County Carlow as driving conditions deteriorate overnight

With people across the county warned to only make essential journeys

Carlow County Council has issued a warning to people in Carlow about the dangerous snow and icy conditions across the county following a weekend full of snow in the country.

As the council has gritted and ploughed the roads, throughout the night, a hard freeze on top of the existing snow and slush has caused slippy driving conditions across the county.

The alert from the Carlow County Council reads as follows:

"UPDATE: Driving conditions have deteriorated further overnight. Although we have ploughed and gritted throughout the night a hard freeze on top of existing snow and slush has caused very slippy surfaces for driving.
Footpaths are also very slippy.
Please only make essential journeys and check in on vulnerable family and neighbours."
