Met Éireann have provided their daily weather forecast for County Carlow and surrounding areas.

This comes on the eve of Storm Éowyn as the whole country has been placed under a red weather warning.

The warning will be in place from 2am on Friday until 10am.

Earlier on Wednesday, Carlow weather man Alan O'Reilly warned that the approaching Storm Éowyn will be a "historic" one. O'Reilly added: "Anyone saying this is just another storm is in for a rude awakening."

Looking firstly at today's forecast:

"Showery outbreaks of rain will continue to track eastwards across the country with some heavy falls at times with the chance of isolated thunderstorms. Sunny spells and scattered blustery showers will follow from the west. Highest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty southwest or west winds, easing later."

Tonight:

"Tonight strengthening southeasterly winds associated with Storm Eowyn will bring heavy, persistent and widespread rain, turning to sleet and snow for a time in Connacht and Ulster. Through the night the winds will continue to strengthen as they veer to southwesterly by morning. Impacts will be severe with power outages and significant disruption due to falling trees and structural damage. Lowest temperatures of zero to 4 degrees."

Tomorrow:

"During tomorrow, Friday, gale force southwest winds over land, will veer westerly by afternoon, winds are expected to reach violent storm force along parts of the west coast through the day. There'll be scattered squally showers with more persistent rain across the north of the country. Afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees, feeling much colder due to wind-chill. The winds will steadily ease through the afternoon."
