In a great display of community spirit, a local GoFundMe for the Carlow Special Olympics Club has surpassed its target within just days of being created.
Paddy Cahill created the fundraiser on behalf of BJ Amond who plans on walking 5km a day for the entire month of August to raise funds for the Carlow Special Olympics Club, which his brother Killian is a member of.
So far, the GoFundMe has raised over €1,165 after being created just four days ago. Its original target was €1,000.

In the fundraiser's message, BJ said: "My brother Killian is an athlete in Carlow Special Olympics club. I am going to walk 5k a day for the entire month of August to raise much needed funds for this great club.
"The club provides sports and social activities to over 100 athletes. Sports include football, basketball, athletics, swimming and bowling.
"All donations, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated. All funds go directly to the club for all sports activities, including the highly anticipated Ireland games next summer. Thank you all in advance!"
