William (Billy) Kirwan has passed away recently leaving his friends, family and the people in his community heartbroken

RIP: 'Great musician'- Carlow in mourning after father of nine passes away in hospital

RIP William (Billy) Kirwan

Carlow is in mourning following the recent death of a well-known local man who will be missed by many people.

William (Billy) Kirwan was from Bendenstown in Rathoe in Carlow and died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Saint Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny on September 21st, 2025.

Predeceased by his loving wife Jacinta, sister Babs and brothers John and Jim.

Billy was the much loved father of nine children; John, Willie, Nicky, Brendan, Aisling, Nigel, Emily, Nicola and Derek.

Deeply regretted by his sons, daughters, sons-in-law Eddie, Niall & Thomas, daughters-in-law Martina, Sharon, Karin, Christine and Michelle, grandchildren Ciara, Rachel, Aoife, Dylan, Shane, Scott, Sinead, Mia, Matt, Ben, Bradley, Abigail, Ailson & Noah, sister Nancy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and his wide circle of friends & kind neighbours.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:

Reposing at Kearney's Funeral Home, Fenagh on Tuesday from 2pm concluding with prayers at 8.30pm.

Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 11am in Saint Patrick's Church, Rathoe, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and loved Billy, with one mourner writing,

"RIP billy. Billy was a gentleman and it was a pleasure to care for him during his time with us. Condolences to the Kirwan family".

Another message said, "Deepest sympathy Emily & all the Kirwan Family on the very sad loss of your dear Dad Billy.
Remembering all the Great nights out in Green Drake & the Christmas parties playing beautiful music for us all. Rest in peace Billy".

"So very sorry to hear about the sad passing of Billy. He was a lovely man and a great musician whom we got together many times for a music session or at a rambling night. We will miss him so much. Our thoughts are with his family on this sad occasion. May he rest in peace," another person said.
