Bat For A Chance has recently made a significant donation to Carlow Cricket Club to help its work with the town's Rohingya refugee population.

"The club’s story is a remarkable one," Bat For A Chance said. "In 2009, 64 Rohingya refugees were resettled in Carlow through an Irish Government and UNHCR programme.

"Many of the boys had first learned cricket in refugee camps in Bangladesh, and once in Ireland they continued to play informally. With the support of Carlow Youth Services, the game became a tool for wellbeing, integration, and ultimately the re-establishment of Carlow Cricket Club.

"Today, the club brings together a vibrant mix of Rohingya, Irish, Eastern European, Asian and Australian players, running two adult and two youth teams. Our donated equipment will support both a women’s side and children’s training sessions – helping cricket continue its role as a unifying force in the community.

"A huge thank you to Woodland Group, whose logistical support over the past three years has made this possible".

Gavin Hogg, UK Air Export Manager at Woodland Group said “Woodland Group is delighted to support Bat For a Chance, a charity that uses cricket to inspire, empower, and create opportunities for young people around the world.

"We’re proud to have helped cricket kits reach communities in Barbados, South Africa, Pakistan, and now Ireland. It’s fantastic to see how the game can make a real difference, and we’re thrilled to support such a great cause”.
