Major changes to Carlow's SETU campus are on the way after planning permission was approved earlier this week.

A new internal road will be laid and will connect to a new signal controlled junction on the Kilkenny Road.

This comes as part of the Carlow to SETU Pedestrian and Cycle Active Travel Scheme.

241 additional car parking spaces will also be added to the campus along with footpaths, bicycle paths, lighting, landscaping, entrance walls, and entrance gates.

The planning application was made in December of last year but was only approved on Wednesday.

It says this is to ensure the "continued preservation of places, caves, sites, features or other objects of archaeological interest."

The Department also requested that proper consideration was given to the River Barrow and its inhabitants.
