Phase Two of the Active Travel Scheme that will link Carlow Town to SETU is officially underway.

Phase Two will see the transformation of the Kilkenny Road corridor with a segregated route for pedestrians and cyclists established.

"This isn't just about paving paths; it's about connecting the community, creating a safe artery between the town centre and the bustling university campus," a Carlow Active Travel newsletter said.

The pedestrian route will see the upgrading of the current footpath and will be roughly 300m in length.

The new cycle lane will also be 300m long and will go in two directions.

Two pedestrian crossings will be built along with a traffic light controlled junction at the entrance to the SETU campus.

The lighting infrastructure will be upgraded too, making it safer and more accessible in the dark.

Traffic calming measures will also be implemented, paving the way for a smoother journey through Carlow.
