RIP: Elderly woman dies after being knocked down in Carlow road crash

Gardai say the fatal incident happened at Myshall village on Monday evening

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman died after she was knocked down by a vehicle in County Carlow.

In the appeal, they say the fatal incident happened at Myshall village on Monday evening.

"Shortly before 5.30pm gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision, involving a car and a pedestrian. The female pedestrian, aged in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene," said a spokesperson.

The local coroner has been notified and the woman’s body has been removed to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Gardai say no other injuries were reported and motorists are being advised that the scene is being held pending technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and were travelling in the area between 5pm and 5.30pm on Monday are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
