There is a huge cloud of despair and grief in Carlow following the tragic and sudden death of 21-year-old Paul Fitzpatrick

The funeral has taken place of the young man died in hunting accident in County Carlow, a week ago.

Paul Fitzpatrick (21) was tragically killed in a firearms incident at a rural location near Leighlinbridge, on Tuesday, December 2 2nd December 2025.

Gardai are investigating the circumstances of his death a file will be prepared for the local coroner.

Paul will be eternally missed by his mam, Rosemarie, dad, Darran, brothers Billy and Niall and his forever loving girlfriend Ebony, grandparents, Carmel, Mary and Paddy, aunts and uncles, cousins and many, many friends and neighbours. Paul is predeceased by his Grandfather Dick and Uncle Richard.

Heartbroken messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and loved the young man, with one mourner writing,

"Our deepest sympathy to Rosemarie Darren Billy Niall and Ebony and his wide circle of friends Paul was an absolute beautiful person inside and out it was a pleasure to have known him may you get the best bed in heaven Paul fly high and wrap your wings around your family and friends keep them all safe".

Another message said: "Rosemary, Darren, Billy, and Niall, we were deeply saddened to hear of Paul’s passing. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this heart breaking time. Paul was no doubt cherished by everyone who knew him, and the love he shared with his family is something that will stay with him always, carried with him into his eternal rest. Wishing you strength, comfort, and peace as you navigate the days ahead. Thinking of you all".

"My heart felt condolences to Rosemarie, Darren, Billy and Niall on the untimely passing of Paul. To Ebony & the entire Fitzpatrick & Nolan family you are in our prayers...Paul was a beautiful boy, so full of fun. My last memory of Paul will always be the night of 6th year graduation when they all came to ours like many times before to celebrate another mile stone...Fly high with the angels Paul, may you rest in peace," another mourner said.

Paul's Funeral Mass took place on Monday morning in St. Andrew's Church Bagenalstown. Burial took place immediately afterwards in Wells Cemetery Royal Oak.

May he rest in peace.
