Messages of condolences have poured in on RIP.ie across Carlow after a former teacher sadly passed away.
Teresa Cleary (née Ruane) from Carlow Town and formerly Ballindine in Mayo passed away on January 6th, 2026, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was the dearly loved wife of Matt and adored mother of Ronan, Andrea, Enda and James and worked as a teacher in St Joseph's National School for many years.
Teresa will be sadly missed by her loving husband, sons, daughter, brothers Seamus and Con, sisters Maura and Bernie, sons-in-law Frank and Laurent, daughters-in-law Anne Marie and Marina, her cherished granddaughters Ciara, Maura, Amelie, Elsa and Maia, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, former colleagues of St. Joseph’s NS and her many friends.
Predeceased by her grandson Aidan and by her siblings Michael, Paraic and Audrey.
Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and loved Teresa, with one mourner writing,
"Dear Andrea, Enda and family. Sincere condolences on the passing of your mum. I remember especially your mum's warm welcome. She was full of joy and lit up the room - showing kindness and care towards everyone. May she rest in peace".
Another message said, "Sincere condolences to Enda and all the Cleary & Ruane families. Have only the fondest of memories of my time in Ms Cleary's class in St Joseph's in the early 80s. The best of teachers, a credit to her profession - and a lovely woman outside of school too. May she rest in peace".
"As a former student of Mrs Cleary, I was very sorry to hear of her passing. I have fond memories of being in her class in St Joseph’s. Sincere condolences to the family," another person said.
"Very sorry to hear of the passing of Teresa. She was my 1st class teacher in St. Joseph's school in the mid 1980s. A credit to her profession. Wishing the Cleary and Ruane family some solace at this difficult time," another person said.
