A new communication board has been officially installed at Carlow Town Park, enhancing accessibility and inclusion for all park users.
The board is designed to support communication for children and adults who may have speech, language or communication difficulties.
Using clear symbols and simple visuals and pictures of the park equipment helps users express needs, feelings and choices while enjoying the park, Carlow County Council said.
The installation reflects a commitment to creating inclusive public spaces where everyone can participate, play and connect. Families, carers and educators are encouraged to make use of the board during visits to the park.
This project was supported by Sport Ireland through Dormant Accounts Funding.
This addition makes Carlow Town Park a more welcoming and supportive environment for the whole community, Carlow County Council said.
If you are a school, sports club, resident's association or community group and would like similar in your local playground in 2026, please contact Teresa Active Carlow on tomeara@carlowcoco.ie.
