Rest in Peace Deirdre Byrne

Tributes have poured in following the passing of a Carlow woman, known and cherished by many in her local community.

Deirdre Byrne (née Fitzpatrick) of Racey Byrnes, 80 Tullow Street in Carlow and formerly of 12 Whitethorn Road, Artane, Dublin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on February 9th, 2026 at South East Palliative Care Centre at Waterford University Hospital.

Deidre was the beloved wife of Olly, much loved mother of Gary, Damien, Caroline. Leona and the late Nichola, adored Nanny of Nicola, Béibhinn, Réaltín and Emelia and cherished sister of Gerard, Dolores, Ann, Tina and the late Alice.

She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, sons, daughters, grandchildren, son-in-law Kevin, brother, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and friends.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and loved Deirdre, with one mourner writing,

"Damien I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious Momma. Sincere condolences to all your family at this very sad time. I know how much she meant to you and how deeply she shaped the beautiful person you are. Losing a mother leaves a space that words can’t fill, but I hope you can find some comfort in the love she gave you, the memories you shared, and the pieces of her that will always live on in you.

"Please know that my heart is with you during this heartbreaking time. I’m holding you close in my thoughts and sending you all the strength, love, and peace you need in the days ahead".

Another message said, "So sorry to hear of the passing of Deirdre she was a beautiful person. You will be missed by so many condolences".

"Deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to you Olly and the extended Byrne family on the sad passing of your lovely wife and Mam, Deirdre. Myself and my late Freda had great fun and enjoyment on many occasions over the decades with you all. Thinking of you Dolores, Gerard, Tina and Ann at this very sad time for you all so soon after Alice’s passing," another mourner said.
