Carlow County Council has detected 91 littering and dumping offences using its CCTV enforcement system targeting illegal dumping and littering.
The cameras were initially installed at six locations across Carlow Town and County starting last October, according to a statement by Carlow County Council.
"Following the review and processing of footage, fines started to be issued in December and continue to be issued," Carlow County Council said.
Liam Carroll Senior Executive Officer with Carlow County Council said, “Unfortunately, there is a large portion of these littering and dumping incidents are taking place at our bring banks in both Tullow and Hacketstown.
"Members of the public need to understand that it is not acceptable to leave domestic waste, litter and other items on the ground beside bring banks. Leaving items beside the bring banks is considered littering and those responsible may receive a litter fine.”
Mr. Carroll added, “Thankfully we have seen a marked improvement with regard to the amount of littering and illegal dumping in St Mary’s Cemetery since the CCTV cameras have been installed. Given the success of the scheme, Carlow County Council intends to expand the scheme to a number of other sites throughout Carlow Town and County during 2026”
