A Carlow butcher has been crowned the best in the country after taking top honours in a major national competition.
Murphy's Craft Butchers, based in Tullow, was named Overall Champion at the 2026 Easter Lamb Display Challenge with judges praising its outstanding presentation, creativity and attention to detail.
The Irish Butchers' Guild announced the winners of the annual competition, which celebrates excellence in butchery presentation, creativity and in-store display across its network of independent butchers.
Murphy's award-winning display stood out for its "exceptional attention to detail, outstanding product quality, and a creative, eye-catching showcase that perfectly captured the spirit of the season".
James Murphy of Murphy's Craft Butchers said the team was thrilled with the win.

"We're absolutely delighted to be named Overall Champion. It's a great reward for the hard work and attention to detail the team puts in every day.
Competitions like this really showcase the best of Irish butchery, and we're proud to be part of that," he added.
The annual competition recognises Guild members who go above and beyond in showcasing the very best of Irish lamb during the Easter season.
With lamb holding a special place in Irish food traditions at Easter, the competition highlights the vital role local butchers play in presenting high-quality, locally sourced produce in an inspiring and engaging way for customers.
Judging was based on overall display, visual appeal and aesthetics, as well as creativity and innovation, rewarding butchers who brought originality and fresh ideas to their displays.
