A Carlow town is set to benefit from a funding boost after being selected under a major national heritage scheme.
Borris has been included among areas chosen under the Historic Towns Initiative 2026, with €50,000 allocated to support a heritage-led regeneration plan.
The announcement was made by the Heritage Council alongside Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne and Minister of State Christopher O'Sullivan, as part of a wider €2 million funding package for historic towns across Ireland.
The Historic Towns Initiative is a joint initiative between the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and the Heritage Council, with funding aimed at supporting heritage-led regeneration, job creation and traditional building skills.
This year's scheme follows on from highly successful projects between 2018 and 2025 and seeks proposals that encourage the specific re-use of historic buildings.
The funding awarded to Borris will support a plan to aid regeneration, with the aim of informing future conservation projects and helping to keep historic buildings in good condition.

Minister Browne said: "This funding will have a tangible benefit on the public realm of these towns and villages, protecting their built heritage and historical character.
"The towns and villages awarded funding today are thriving places to live and work and this funding does an important job in making sure they continue to be, protecting our older buildings as these towns develop."
Minister O'Sullivan added: "The Historic Towns Initiative works because it provides practical financial support to keep historic buildings in use, ensuring that they retain their position at the heart of community life."
Chief Executive of the Heritage Council Virginia Teehan said the initiative plays a key role in supporting local communities.
"Heritage-led regeneration strengthens communities by fostering pride of place and sustaining traditional skills.
"Through the Historic Towns Initiative, we are working closely with local authorities and communities to ensure our historic towns remain at the heart of Ireland's cultural and economic life."
The Borris plan is one of eight heritage-led regeneration plans funded this year, with work expected to be completed in 2026.
