RIP: 'Our hearts are broken'- Heartbreak in Carlow after beloved father of three dies

Tributes have poured in following the recent passing of a beloved Carlow man who will be missed greatly by many people.

Brian Bernie was from Birch Ave., Phelim Wood, Tullow, Co. Carlow and died on 20th April 2026 suddenly but peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny.

Predeceased by his loving wife Philomena, son-in-law Recky, brother Ivan and sisters Agnes, Gretta and Kathleen.

Sadly missed by his loving partner Bridie, daughters Jackie and Martina, son James, son-in-law Barry, daughter-in-law Bernie, brother Tony, sisters Rosaleen and Eithne, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandsons Riogh and Jack, granddaughters Nicole, Mia, Emily and Ellie, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and friends.

The funeral for Brian will be arriving to The Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Tullow on Friday morning for 11am Requiem Mass after which he will be laid to rest in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Tullow.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Brian, with one mourner writing,

"Heartbroken over Brian’s Passing, we won’t forget all our great adventures and memories made over the years on the Boats. Brian you will be missed dearly by all. Our deepest sympathies to Bridie, James, Martina and Jackie, grandkids and all the extended Family at this sad time x Rest in Peace Brian".

Another message said, "So sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. He was a huge part of both my dad’s life and my own. A hardworking, loyal man who loved his family deeply and always put them first. 

"I have great memories of working with Brian—full Irish breakfasts in the cafés on the quays, pots of tea, plenty of cigarettes and loads of laughs. Simple times, but good ones. He was also a great friend to my dad in his later years. My sincere condolences to Bridie, Jackie, Martina and James".
