THERE were celebrations at the RDS on Friday night when Clare's Mark Rodgers was named Young Hurler of the Year for 2023.
The Scariff clubman fought off competition from Feakle’s Adam Hogan and Ciaran Joyce of Cork to win the accolade at the GAA/GPA All-Stars gala evening.
The corner forward, who scored four goals during the 2023 championship, is the first Clare hurler to win the award since Tony Kelly in 2013.
Speaking during RTÉ's coverage of the awards night, the University of Limerick student paid tribute to his family and his club for their support in his hurling career.
Fellow Clare players John Conlon and Shane O’Donnell were also presented with their All-Star trophies at the gala function.
Separately, Limerick hurler Aaron Gillane has been named Hurler of the Year for 2023.
Full forward on the PwC Hurling All-Stars team, he once again tormented defences and grabbed important scores in big games during the 2023 championship.
He also brings yet more glory to the Patrickswell club which has a proud tradition of All-Star success and has also impressively supplied recent Hurlers of the Year in Cian Lynch and Diarmaid Byrnes.
