New TV documentary highlights ongoing crisis at University Hospital Limerick

A new documentary about University Hospital Limerick (UHL) is coming to Virgin Media One this Monday night.

The programme, entitled UHL: Ireland’s Hospital Crisis, will air at 10pm and will also be available to watch on Virgin Media Play.

“In this exclusive Virgin Media News documentary, we examine the ongoing crisis at UHL through the stories of people who have been impacted by overcrowding and staff shortages at the hospital that, during an inquest, was referred to as a death trap,” reads the synopsis.

Virgin Media News correspondent Richard Chambers speaks to three families who lost loved ones at UHL.

One of those interviews is with Karina Leahy, whose father Pa died at the hospital. She said: “He never got the care he needed. In fact, he was just tortured from the minute he went in the door.”

Another person to feature on the show is Ashlee Dickinson, speaking about the care that her mother, Rachel, received at the hospital. 

Ashlee said: “You're trusting that your loved ones are going to be cared for as best as possible, and we're not sure if that was the case.”
