Sergeant Edel Burke from Kilrush Garda Station co-facilitated a farm safety workshop last Friday with Agrikids and the Irish Rural Link at Kilmihil National School.
The workshop is part of a new farm safety education resource designed to support primary school teachers, and members of their local farming communities, with the tools needed to co-deliver an effective farm safety education programme in the classroom.
The manual includes information on how teachers and members of the community can work together to co-deliver the programme; ideas for topics which can be covered; tips for making the information accessible for children; and much more.

It is just one of several new learning supports in development under the Engage, Educate & Empower pilot, a community-led learning initiative in farm safety education.
During the workshop last Friday, November 8, Sgt Burke, who is a member of the Kilrush-based Advisory Board Panel, spoke with the children about blind spots and power-take-off shafts on tractors, while Agrikids spoke about animal safety and machinery safety on farms.
The children were very enthusiastic about helping to show how the farmer couldn’t see them in his blind spot.
