Gardai launch investigation after man dies in road crash in west Clare

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a fatal road traffic collision in west Clare.

The collision, involving a car, happened at Kilmurry McMahon, Kilrush happened early this Sunday morning.

"A man, aged in his 30s, the driver of the car was fatally injured," confirmed a spokesperson who added that the local coroner has been notified.

Gardai say an investigation is underway and that arrangements will now be made for a post-mortem examination to be carried out.

The road remains closed while a technical examination is being carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses and any road users who have camera footage and who were travelling in the area between 3am and 7am to come forward.

Those with dash-cam footage are being asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

This morning's fatal crash is the second on Irish roads this weekend and follows the death of two men in a road crash in County Donegal on Friday night.
