Whiskey in a car! Court date for Clare motorist observed driving 'erratically' in Ennis

Gardai say the detection should act as a reminder to all drivers, to never drive under the influence of alcohol or controlled drugs

Gardai discovered a glass of whiskey and recovered a small quantity of cocaine when they stopped a driver who was observed driving erratically in Ennis.

In a post on social media, gardai say members from Unit D Regular Unit stopped the car in recent days after they encountered it while on routine patrol. The exact location of the detection has not been disclosed publicly.

"The driver was suspected to be under the influence of an intoxicant and a glass of whiskey was located in the centre console," they said, adding that a small quantity of suspected cocaine was located on the driver.

Criminal proceedings have now been initiated and a court appearance awaits the driver early in the new Year.

Gardai say the detection should act as a reminder to all drivers, to never drive under the influence of alcohol or controlled drugs.
