Doonaha National School has received approval for an extension by the Department of Education
The Department of Education has granted permission for an extension which will see a new classroom being constructed at Doonaha National School.
Clare Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley has praised the school's principal and board of management for their hard work in getting (pupil) numbers up which led to the approval of the new classroom.
Last year, the Kilkee-based school enrolled just 23 pupils, the tenth-lowest student population in the county.

Speaking on Clare FM, the Deputy said: "It's good that areas that have a little increase and need the extra classroom that the government is flexible and they're ready to act on the kind of policies that we want to continue with in supporting rural communities."
Deputy Dooley said the institution will now be able to grow in a modern environment.
