Public’s input sought on new shuttle bus service for Burren and Cliffs of Moher

A new hop-on hop-off shuttle bus service linking towns, villages and visitor attractions throughout North and West Clare is now the subject of public consultation. 

With engagement sessions on this taking place in Miltown Malbay and Kilfenora on Monday, April 7, and Tuesday April 8, the free “Burren and Cliffs Explorer” is set to be launched by Clare County Council this summer. 

In partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), the pilot project will operate from May 1 to August 31 with the potential to extend into September.

The shuttle bus will serve Corofin, Carran, Kilfenora, Doolin, Liscannor and Lahinch, as well as the hub locations of Lisdoonvarna and Miltown Malbay, where free car parking will be provided. The scheduled service will also serve landmark attractions such as the Burren National Park and the Cliffs of Moher Experience.

Local residents, businesses and key stakeholders are now invited to share their views to help shape the future of this initiative by attending public consultation events in Miltown Malbay Community Centre on Monday and at the Burren Centre in Kilfenora on Tuesday, with both sessions taking place from 5pm to 7pm.

Representatives of the Cliffs of Moher Experience and the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, Clare County Council and NPWS will all be in attendance to provide additional information and answer questions.

Siobhán McNulty, Director of Tourism Development with Clare County Council said the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Explorer will provide flexible and convenient transportation that enables locals and visitors to explore the region’s natural and cultural attractions at their own pace.

She explained, “The development of tourism in the wider North Clare area must be done sustainably and continue to be inclusive of the views of local communities, which is why we are seeking the public’s input on the roll-out of the new shuttle service. 

“The free, bookable service is designed to enhance the visitor experience while supporting sustainable tourism and driving economic benefits for local communities. The feedback received to date has been very positive due to the initiative’s focus on improving connectivity within our local communities. It also encourages tourists to stay local, leave the car behind, and explore the surrounding towns and villages," Ms McNulty added.
