Clare hurling fans advised of road closures in Limerick ahead of Munster SHC fixture

Motorists and match patrons are being advised of significant road closures in Limerick for the Munster Senior Hurling Championship

Clare hurling fans travelling to this Sunday's Munster SHC match at TUS Gaelic Grounds are being urged to plan ahead as a number of significant roads will be closed around the venue.

While the Clare hurlers are out of this year's championship, a sizeable crowd is still expected to attend the match, which throws in at 4pm.

Motorists are being advised that Sarsfield Bridge, Shelbourne Road, Lower Shelbourne Road and the Ennis Road, from Henry Street to Ivan’s Cross, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11am. Traffic will be diverted to the Northern Ring Road, Clonmacken, Shannon Bridge and Thomond Bridge.

Road Closures/diversions are likely to apply from 2pm to 7pm onwards at the following locations:

Ennis Road at its junction with Ivan’s Cross – traffic will be diverted to Northern Ring Road and towards Clonmacken.

Salesian’s School/North Circular Road junction – Road Closure

Shelbourne Road/North Circular Road at Clanmaurice Avenue – Road Closure.

Union Cross – Closed to traffic outbound on Ennis Road, Diversion left and right for Shelbourne Road & Lower Shelbourne Road.

Shelbourne Pk./Shelbourne Road – Road Closure.

Shelbourne Rd./Mayorstone Drive – Road Closure.

Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Avenue – Road Closure. 

Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper – Road Closure.

Old Cratloe Road at its junction with Mayorstone Upper & T.U.S Roundabout (Merval Pk.) – Road Closure.

At certain junctions, traffic lights will be switched out for short periods of time this Sunday, with a garda present instead.

Hassetts Cross, Union Cross, Ivan’s Cross, Condell Road/Shelbourne Road, Ennis Road/Jetland, Ennis Road/Greenhills, Sarsfield Street/Henry Street, Sarsfield Street/O’Connell Street, William Street/Gerald Griffin Street and Cathedral Place/Newtown Mahon.

Where possible, motorists are advised to park in the city centre and walk from there to TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Parking available at city centre carparks and on street parking. Disability parking passes for TUS Gaelic Grounds only available through Limerick or Cork GAA County Boards.

Ennis Road from Union Cross to Caherdavin Cross (Ivans) will be closed from 1pm.

Parking will be available at different locations on the Ennis Road between Coonagh roundabout and Caherdavin Cross. Parking will also be available at TUS Campus, Old Cratloe Road.

There is no specific bus or coach parking around TUS Gaelic Grounds. Coaches must not be parked in a manner which may lead to disruption.

The advice to match-goers is that Cratloe Road and Condell Road should be used for drop off and collection. Alternatively, coaches should park in coach parking areas in the city centre and patrons walk to the grounds.

Priority will be given to patrons exiting TUS Gaelic Grounds on foot after the game.

Ennis Road will be closed from Union Cross to Caherdavin Cross. Two lanes of traffic will operate outbound on the Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout.

All outbound traffic on Ennis Road from Caherdavin Cross to Coonagh roundabout will be directed out the R445 to the N18. Condell Road will be closed to inbound traffic at Coonagh roundabout.

Traffic on Clonmacken Road will be directed towards Clonmacken Road roundabout and Condell Road and will use Toll Plaza or Condell Road to Shannon Bridge

Inbound traffic on Ennis Road will use Sarsfield Bridge to Limerick city centre. Inbound traffic on Cratloe Road will use Sexton Street North to Thomond Bridge to Island Road to Dublin Road and Limerick city centre.

Residential and business access will be maintained where possible.

Public Bus Routes will be kept running for as long as is possible up to the match event at An Garda Síochana’s discretion.

Emergency service vehicle access will be maintained.

Limerick City and County Council, An Garda Síochana and Limerick County GAA Board advise patrons to be parked at least one hour before match start time and to use city centre off street car parks and free on street facilities.
