Shannon Chamber has welcomed the announcement that planning permission has been granted to convert Phoenix House, the former Shannon Development building, into student accommodation.
As stated by CEO, Helen Downes: “We sometimes forget that Shannon is a university town, with the Shannon College of Hotel Management educating 400 students in all aspects of hotel management. In fact, over 3,000 students have studied in Shannon since the College’s foundation and can be found in all corners of the world, all proud to be part of what is known as the ‘Shannon Family’. This is an amazing track record.

“To now be able to provide accommodation for these students so near their college will be a bonus, not just for the college but for Shannon. To have a cohort of young people living in the Town Centre will boost footfall and bring new life to the heart to Shannon.
“Shannon College of Hotel Management is an intrinsic part of Shannon’s infrastructure, yet its location makes it somewhat invisible. Having a presence in the centre of the town will elevate its recognition for the contribution it makes to Shannon’s economy,” added Ms Downes.
