Hollywood actor Bill Murray brought a touch of Hollywood to Clare on Saturday, attending the intermediate hurling championship clash between Clarecastle and Tubber.
Murray, best known for his performances in 'Ghostbusters' and 'Groundhog Day', has long been a frequent visitor to Ireland and has previously taken in intercounty hurling games alongside JP McManus. This weekend, however, he went more local and was spotted cheering on Clarecastle.
The club captured the moment in a lighthearted statement:
"If Carlsberg did weekends in the Clare Hurling Championship … all three of our adult teams have now progressed to the knockout stages of championship. With our Premier Intermediates spurred on by Clarecastle superfan Bill Murray."
The match coincided with Murray's birthday weekend celebrations. Bill turned 75 on Saturday, and while some A-listers decide to spend their birthdays on yachts or private jets, Murray spent his in Gaelic Park in Ruan in east Clare, adding a memorable Irish sporting moment to his repertoire of birthday celebrations.

Murray was spotted sitting alongside Clare GAA chairman Kieran Keating at the match in Ruan as Clarecastle secured a nine-point victory over last year’s finalists.
The post match scenes were equally memorable. Clarecastle star Rory O’Connell was filmed discussing sea swims and recovery routines with Murray.
Fans quickly shared clips on social media, highlighting the surreal, surprising but delightful encounter. Murray’s appearance further cements his ongoing affection for Ireland and its sporting culture, particularly hurling, adding an unexpected splash of Hollywood glamour to a local championship weekend.
