The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) has seized just under €200,000 from a suspected drug dealer in Co Clare.

The bureau’s Annual Report, which was published last week, gave details of an investigation which was launched into the individual last year.

The report stated that the bureau investigated the assets and activities of the individual after receiving a Divisional Asset Profile from Gardaí in Co Clare.

The individual is known to Gardaí and is suspected of being involved in the sale and supply of drugs in the Ennis area.

The bureau conducted search operations at the home and a garage associated with this individual.

Following the investigations, CAB obtained High Court Orders pursuant to sections 2, 3 and 4A.

In total, €100,000, consisting of two drafts, and €98,475.41 in financial institutions was seized.

The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) is a law enforcement agency that targets the proceeds of crime.

CAB identifies, freezes, and confiscates assets that are suspected to have been acquired through criminal conduct.

This can be done even without a criminal conviction, under the Proceeds of Crime Acts.

The bureau works alongside An Garda Síochána and the Revenue Commissioners to use financial, tax and social welfare laws to dismantle criminal enterprises.
