A busy roundabout that leads into Ennis town is set for an assessment after a councillor shared her fears of potential accidents due to lack of lighting.

In a recent meeting of the Ennis Municipal District, Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy brought forward a Notice of Motion regarding the roundabout on the R458 next to St Flannan’s College, located at the junction of Limerick Road and College View.

The Fianna Fáil member stated that this is one of the main entry points to Ennis town for many people but at nighttime, the roundabout is so dark it is “actually dangerous.”

Making a further point, Cllr Colleran Molloy also noted that a constituent said that in the past year alone, they have had nearly two car accidents due to the darkness in this area.

In a written response, A/Senior Executive Engineer Michael McNamara confirmed that the Public Lighting Section of the Council will engage its maintenance contractor following the motion. This is so an assessment can be conducted on the current lighting provision at the roundabout adjacent to St Flannan’s College.

Further on from this, the results of the assessment will be made available to the Ennis Municipal District for consideration of the members, should any necessary upgrade works or maintenance be identified.
