Clare motorists warned as road works speed limits in Ennis to remain in place for 12 months

Clare County Council has announced the implementation of temporary road traffic speed limit reductions at various locations in Ennis town by way of a Road Works Speed Limit Order.

Four areas around the town will be subject to 30 kilometre per hour reduction while nine locations will have a 20 kilometres per hour speed limit put in place.

These temporary speed limits will be implemented from November 29,2025 until Saturday, November 28, 2026.

The works will involve the introduction of a temporary 30km/h speed limit on a number of roads in Ennis.

The reduced speed limit will apply from Carmody Street to Woodquay, and from River Lane to Fahy’s Lane, it will also be in place from Cabey’s Lane and Parnell Street through to Woodquay.

The final road with the temporary 30km/h speed limit is from Old Friary Lane to Bank Place.

In addition, a temporary 20km/h speed limit will be introduced on a number of roads in Ennis.

This will apply on Old Friary Lane, from its junction with Bank Place to Salt House Lane, and from Salt House Lane along High Street to O’Connell Square.

The reduced speed limit will also be in place on Bank Place, from O’Connell Square to Old Friary Lane, and on Abbey Street, from Brewery Lane to O’Connell Square.

A 20km/h speed limit will apply throughout O’Connell Square, as well as on O’Connell Street, from O’Connell Square to Station Road.

It will also apply on Upper O’Connell Street, from Station Road to the junction with Carmody Street/Clare Road.

In addition, the temporary speed limit will cover Old Barrack Street, from Upper O’Connell Street to Market Place, and Barrack Close, from its start point to its junction with Old Barrack Street.

Clare County Council announced the notice in accordance with Section 10 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 that Clare County Council intends to introduce a Temporary Road Traffic 30 km/hr and 20km/hr Speed Limit, by way of a Road Works Speed Limit Order within the Ennis Municipal District.
