Young man to face trial following €1 million crime spree in Clare, Limerick and Galway

Ennis Courthouse

A Limerick man is to face trial before the circuit court in Ennis arising from an alleged crime spree across Clare, Limerick and Galway.

At Ennis District Court, Judge Alec Gabbett was told a book of evidence has been completed in the case of Tyreke Casey-Curtin of Caisleán na hAbhann, Castletroy in the city.

During a procedural hearing at Ennis District Court, Garda Emmet Roche gave evidence of serving the three-volume book of evidence on solicitor Tara Godfrey, who represents the 25-year-old defendant.

Sergeant John Burke said three charges were being withdrawn by the State but that Mr Casey-Curtin is to be prosecuted on indictment for a total of 31 charges.

The charges include handling stolen property, criminal damage and seven of burglary relating to different locations. All of the offences are alleged to have occurred on July 9, 2024.

It is further alleged that property worth in excess of €1m was taken during the crime spree and a number of other individuals are also before the courts awaiting trial

Having heard evidence from Garda Roche, Judge Gabbett issued the 'alibi warning' to the defendant – who appeared via video-link from Limerick prison.

The judge granted an application to extend legal aid to include a junior counsel when the case comes before Ennis Circuit Court next month.

He also made a number of technical orders regarding the disclosure of certain material to Mr Casey-Curtin's legal team.

Mr Casey-Curtin was remanded in continuing custody.
