TG4 has announced a new two-part documentary series exploring the geology, wildlife and human stories of Ireland’s Atlantic cliffs, with a strong focus on the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.
Ailite, or 'Cliffs', is narrated by marine biologist and nature guide Cormac Mac Fhionnlaoich, who now lives and works at the Cliffs of Moher.
The series follows Ireland’s western coastline, also featuring Sliabh Liag in Donegal, Cruachán in Achill and the iconic Clare cliffs.

The first episode of Ailite will air on TG4 on Wednesday, January 14 at 9.30pm, with the second episode following on Wednesday, January 21.
Filmed over four years, the documentary examines how these landscapes were formed and how they continue to shape coastal communities.
The Cliffs of Moher feature prominently throughout the series, with a particular emphasis on their geology, seabird populations and the relationship between the cliffs, the Atlantic Ocean and those who live and work there.

Mac Fhionnlaoich brings both scientific insight and personal experience to the programme.
Originally from Donegal, he now spends much of his time guiding visitors along the Cliffs of Moher and studying the surrounding marine environment.
Speaking about his connection to cliffs, he said: “Growing up, Sliabh Liag was my garden fence – a fence that was 600 metres tall. They shaped me."
"They’re ancient, breathing things – full of music, memory and life. And if you listen closely, I believe they have something to say to everyone.”
The series also documents the wildlife found along the Clare coastline, including puffins, razorbills and other seabirds that nest on the cliffs, as well as the marine life below the surface.
Produced by Tua Films for TG4, the series is supported by Coimisiún na Meán, Tourism Ireland and Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, with international sales handled by Blue Ant Media.
