Derry to light up in purple to highlight Dry January and Feel Good February

Derry City and Strabane District Council will illuminate the council building on Strand Road in purple this evening (Thursday 12th January) to mark Dry January and Feel Good February.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Sandra Duffy, encouraged people to give the campaign a go and reduce their alcohol intake for the month of January.

She said, "I'm delighted to recognise the efforts of Dry January and Feel Good February, by lighting up the council buildings in purple to highlight the importance of this great campaign."

Dry January Feel Good February is a Public Health Agency Campaign designed to encourage people to use the New Year as means to address their alcohol consumption and make lifestyle changes to achieve better health. The Feel Good February part of the campaign aims to persuade participants to continue to abstain or reduce their alcohol intake in the months that follow, and keep up the good habits they created in January.

The campaign aims to change the conversation about alcohol and has a number of benefits including saving money and improving your overall health.

Mayor Duffy continued, "Not only is it a great way to kick-start the year, after perhaps over-indulging over the festive season, it's also a great way to save money and ditch the hangovers as well.

"The month of Dry January offers us the opportunity to have a conversation about our relationship with alcohol. It lets us re-set the body and mind and enter 2023 with a clear and fresh perspective."
