Derry Court: Soldier F hearing resumes into Bloody Sunday murders

Soldier F is charged with the murder of Jim Wray and William McKinney.

The resumed case against the only British soldier charged in connection with the Bloody Sunday killings began today at Derry Magistrate's Court.

Soldier F is charged with the murder of Jim Wray and William McKinney as well as five attempted murders on Bloody Sunday on January 30 1972.

His case had begun and a Preliminary Inquiry was in process when all prosecutions were stopped.

However, after an application by some of the Bloody Sunday families it was decided that the case should resume.

This morning the case began again with evidence being given in from of District Judge Ted Magill.

The first witness called was a Denis McLaughlin who was aged 16 at the time of the events on Bloody Sunday.

Coverage of the actual evidence is not permitted in a Preliminary Inquiry.

Several of the relatives of the Bloody Sunday dead and injured were present at Bishop St Courthouse when the case resumed.

Soldier F is not present in person but attends the hearing remotely.

The hearing is scheduled to last for several weeks before any decision is made whether the former paratrooper will be committed for trial.
