A man has been fined at Derry Magistrate's Court today for a series of public order offences.

Tiernan McFadden (25) from Carnhill in Derry admitted offences that occurred between June 8 2021 and June 11 last year.

The court heard that on June 8 2021 around 9.00pm police on patrol on the Lone Moor Road observed two men leaving the City Cemetery which was closed to the public.

McFadden was seen leaving something in a vehicle before police approached him.

He was asked to open the car to allow police to access it and he refused to do so.

He was charged with obstruction.

The court then heard about an incident on May 7 last year when police were on patrol in the Carnhill area of Derry.

McFadden was observed spitting in the direction of a police vehicle.

Police spoke to him and he was cautioned for an offence of disorderly behaviour.

Finally the court heard about an incident on June 11 last year.

The court heard that police were in attendance at an incident involving a large group of people.

McFadden was seen 'grappling' with a female and police moved in to break up the incident.

McFadden began shouting at police and despite being asked to calm down he persisted.

He then kicked out at an officer striking him on the leg.

McFadden continued to be aggressive and then tried to spit in an officer's face but missed.

Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin said his client had 'limited record' and was also in employment.

He added that the defendant was due to become a father soon and said this  could take 'some of the sting' out of the situation.

McFadden was fined a total of £600.
