A man who stopped outside the Strand Road PSNI Station in Derry and refused to move has been jailed at the local Magistrate's Court today.

Patrick McGonagle (59) of Moyola Drive in Derry admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour that occurred on November 11 last year.

The court heard that McGonagle was seen standing outside the gates of the police station causing an obstruction.

He was asked to move on and leave the area but refused to do so.

He then started shouting 'tiocfaidh ar la' and was abusive to police.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that the court would be 'very familiar' with McGonagle.

He said his client was walking home from the town and stopped outside the barracks 'for no good reason'.

The solicitor told the court that McGonagle was currently serving a prison sentence and was not due for release until June.

McGonagle was sentenced to 4 months in prison.
